Digital Infrared Photography

Near-infrared radiation consists of the wavelengths of light just beyond visible red light (wavelengths greater than around 780 nm). A useful way to think about near-infrared light is to think of it as the color of the rainbow next to red that is invisible to the human eye. An important distinction is that near-infrared radiation is not the same as thermal radiation, or what we normally think of as heat. Although thermal imaging techniques do exist, the equipment necessary is highly specialized and is not covered in this book.
