Listening Skills

“To listen well is as powerful a means of communication and influence as to talk well.”

God gave us two ears and one mouth. The ears are exclusively devoted for hearing whereas the mouth is supposed to do both speaking and eating. Perhaps, God intended that we should do four times as much listening as talking. More often than not, it is the reverse! Most people tend to do more talking than listening.

In our school days, we are taught reading, speaking, maths and a host of other subjects. But do we ever have a formal course on listening? Even our teachers, in their pressure to ‘teach’ the subjects, very seldom find time to listen to the feedback from the students, whether they (the students) have understood ...
