Zeitgeist

An idea doesn’t have to be timeless. It has to work now. It must capture the zeitgeist, a German word that describes the spirit of a specific time or period. The 1920s was the jazz age, the 1950s the jet age, the 1960s the space age and the start of the 21st century was the bling age, characterized by Martin Parr’s photographcs of Russian oligarchs and Damien Hirst’s use of diamonds and 18-carat gold in his sculptures.
