A sales representative, often referred to as a ‘rep’, may work for a manufacturer, wholesale distributor or service industry, persuading potential customers to buy the firm’s products and also looking after the needs of existing customers and providing after-sales advice and support. Sales reps sell anything from photocopiers to catering equipment or double glazing. As a ‘rep’ you are usually assigned a geographical area and travel around it on the firm’s behalf.
One distinctive area of work is that of the medical sales rep. Medical sales reps sell drugs and other medical products to GPs and hospitals on behalf of pharmaceutical companies.
