Thanks to Andrew Byrom’s insighful foreword, we can focus in this introduction on FL@33’s own influences, why we created this book and how.

Many of FL@33’s own typographic experiments over the years have involved real 3D lettering and illustrated 3D type. Come to think of it, this is something we have been fascinated with since childhood, enjoying plenty of alphabet soup and, in the late 1970s and early 1980s, the daily dose of the colourful, often talking, letters that walked and danced through the scenes of children’s television programme Sesame Street.
