78. Adapt to the Follower Continuum

Consider potential followers as arrayed along a continuum that includes four anchors:

  • Totally committed followers

  • Middle-of-the-road followers

  • Convenience followers

  • Herd members

Totally committed followers support a leader with unyielding determination. They go to the mat for the leader at every turn. Middle-of-the-road followers support a leader only as long as it does not demand too much for them. Convenience followers only support a leader when it is totally convenient for them.
