23. Build Trust
Rapport can probably be summed up with one word: trust. In today's more complex, changing, chaotic world, rapport results from more trust, not less. We offer the distinction of being a natural born leader to those who skillfully build trust with every action they take and with every word they speak every day.
Use every interaction as a "moment of trust." Do what you say you will do. Consistency creates trust. Make a promise and keep it. Don't make promises you cannot keep. Take in a confidence and vow to absolutely never betray it. Do not gossip. Accept responsibility for your actions and results. Do not make excuses.
