How it works...

Throttles works on four levels in Teradata (from Teradata database version 16.0). A request, once classified into a particular workload, needs to go through all the throttles, if defined on the system. These throttles can be:

  • The entire system
  • Workload specific or groups of throttles
  • Virtual partitions
  • Utility jobs

You also need to take a note that the throttle does not affect jobs already running on the system; once a job/request is in an active state, it can't be put into delay. To take care of these active jobs, the Teradata workload has exceptions defined.
