Do not forget to place a RELEASE LOCK statement in the archive script. When backups are performed, a utility read lock is invoked; therefore, a release lock is required to allow access to the database. A release lock occurs after a backup is finished, right before logoff. If backup is killed in-between or aborted for any reason, the lock needs to be removed manually to avoid blocking all the other jobs on the system.
