We have seen the benefits of join indexes, but they are not good all of the time. As a join index needs maintenance and use space, it becomes important to check its validity from time to time. It can happen that the join index (JI), you have defined some time back is now no longer getting used by the query. Also, the loading utility tends to degrade when JIs are in use on the loading table.

The following points need to be considered when manipulating join indexes:

  • Load utilities: Not supported by MultiLoad and FastLoad utilities, they must be dropped and recreated after the table has been loaded.
