Access's query features are powerful; they can do amazingly complicated calculations and comparisons on many tables at once. You can create queries with their own dialog boxes for custom entry of special criteria, link a query to external databases (databases in other programs), and much more.

Unfortunately, the process for creating a lot of these powerful queries is quite complicated. It's enough to give casual users a headache. That's why in this book, we stick to the basic Select type of query, which does almost everything an average user needs to do.
