Entering Formulas

You can enter formulas in either of two ways: by typing the formula or by selecting cell references. To type a formula, perform the following steps:

  1. Select the cell in which you want the formula's calculation to appear.

  2. Type the equal sign (=).

  3. Type the formula. The formula appears in the Formula bar.

  4. Press Enteror click the Enterbutton (the check mark), and Excel calculates the result.

Unwanted Formula

If you start to enter a formula and then decide you don't want to use it, you can skip entering the formula by pressing Esc or clicking the Cancelbutton on the Formula bar (the one with the X).
