Closing Workbooks

When you close a workbook, Excel removes its workbook window from the screen. You should close workbooks when you finish working on them to free up your computer's resources so it can respond to your commands more quickly. To close a workbook, follow these steps:

  1. If the window you want to close isn't currently active, make it active by selecting the workbook from the list of workbooks at the bottom of the Window menu.

  2. Click the Close (X) button in the upper-right corner of the workbook.

Close All

In Excel 97, if you have more than one workbook open, you can close all of them at once by holding down the Shift key, opening the File menu, and selecting Close All.
