Over the years, television has been used by the public for a range of different forms of entertainment. Television entertains through its drama productions, competitions, game and quiz shows, music and variety shows, and talk shows featuring celebrities and public figures and through its talent contests and reality programming featuring members of the public. The provision of entertainment is regularly endorsed by viewers as one of the most important aspects of the medium (Ofcom, 2004, 2009d).
