The popularity of broadcast journalism as a career remains undiminished despite the growth of Internet services and online news. Almost every halfway literate youngster, it seems, wants to be in ‘the media’. If that’s not being a part of the web, then it means television and ideally on screen. Television is seen as a glamorous occupation, with the dual prospect of fame and salaries in telephone numbers for an increasingly youthful band of personalities.
