About the author

Ivor Yorke was a journalist on local newspapers and in Fleet Street before joining BBC Television News as a sub-editor in 1964. He went on to become a reporter, producer and editor on a wide range of BBC news programmes. After 28 years in the BBC, the last six as Head of Journalist Training, he left to establish Broadcast Techniques, his own training consultancy, working for professional broadcasting organizations in the United Kingdom and abroad, and teaching television journalism at several colleges. From 1992 Ivor Yorke was vice-chairman of the National Council for the Training of Broadcast Journalists and chaired the industry working party establishing national vocational qualifications for broadcast journalism.
