Wireless MANs

There's an increasing interest in the application of wireless technologies to MANs, particularly in line with wireless local loop deployments, delivery of Internet access and high-speed video transmissions, and the new role of wireless competitive local exchange carriers (CLECs).

The range of MANs is up to 30 miles (50 kilometers). The configuration can be point-to-point or multipoint. The data rates for MANs are low to medium; 9,600 bps up to 128Kbps is typical—but in some arrangements, such as with the use of VSAT, up to 512Kbps may be feasible.
