Broadcast operation centers in transition

Digital technology has exponentially increased the complexity of television broadcast operations. On the surface, the big-picture view of a facility infrastructure looks pretty much like it always did.

As shown in Figure 4.1, content enters the facility from a remote, originates from a studio, or is played back from a storage media. Graphics are produced, audio and video are mixed in a program control room, and commercials are inserted along with bugs and closed captions in the master control room.
