Contributions of the Ancient Civilizations to the Development of Technology

In this chapter, we look at the technological contributions of the ancient civilizations like the Mesopotamians, the Egyptians, the Greeks, the Romans, the Indians and the Chinese to the development of technology. The Mesopotamians specialized in irrigation and building technology. The Egyptians built huge pyramids and excelled in fine crafts like weaving, painting and art. The most original contribution of the Indus Valley Civilization lay in town planning. During later periods, Indians made notable contributions in metallurgy and chemical technology.
