R. V. G. Menon holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, a master’s degree in nuclear engineering and a doctorate in solar energy. After serving in various state engineering colleges in Kerala as a faculty member, he retired in 1998 as the Principal of Government Engineering College, Kannur. He has served as the Director of the Agency for Non-conventional Energy and Rural Technology as well as the Director of the Integrated Rural Technology Centre, Palakkad. He has also been a member of various academic bodies of several universities.
