Preliminary work on control using secondary measurements was reported by Weber and Brosilow (1972). This was followed by a series of papers by Joseph and Brosilow. Brosilow (1982) recognized the model-based nature of IC. Patke et al. (1982) and Luyben and Yu (1987) make comparisons of IC with cascade structures. Budman et al. (1992) and Patke et al. both report on experimental applications of IC. Industrial applications are reported in Ogawa (1999), Montin (1998), and the series of papers by San et al. (1994).
