Comparisons between the desired design and the available time, talent, and money are integral to the design phase. If the design scope works within the allotted resources, approval of the final design becomes easier. If the design does not fit within the available resources, then a period of design refinement must begin. During these discussions, a technical manager can be of considerable assistance by offering specific alternative suggestions that may enable the completion of the project to move forward without unduly sacrificing the integrity of the design concept.
