The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) is a research institution supported by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). It is a research institute par excellence in basic scientific research and it is because of this reason that a brief introduction to this premier institute is presented separately here. The institute with its campuses in Mumbai, Pune and Bangalore and research facilities in various other places in India, carries out research in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and computer science.
