Overview

The national space programme was formally organized in 1972 with the formation of the Space Commission, the Department of Space (DOS) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to promote the development and application of space technology for the socio-economic benefit of the country. Space Commission is the policy-making body, and their policies are implemented by the Department of Space.
