Creating a Glass-Block Effect

Looking for an alternative to real glass block, we developed the cost-effective technique described here. Using Plexiglas®, spike tape, and Saran Wrap® or other plastic wrap as materials, the process involves only a few simple steps.

Cut the Plexiglas® to the desired size. Then, before framing it, apply strips of beige ½″ cloth spike tape to the back of the Plexiglas® to simulate grout lines. Don’t use colored spike tape — especially if it’s not all the same color — because it will show through the Plexiglas®.
