A Ground-Fog Generating System

Erik Walstad

Generating a scene’s worth of ground-hugging fog is tricky business. Dry-ice fogs hug the ground well enough, but they don’t last very long, and storing and handling sizable blocks of frozen CO2, is awkward at best. On the other hand, the longer-lasting fogs produced by theatrical fluid-based fog-gers are pretty easily generated, but they tend to rise rather than hug the ground, dispersing more or less evenly as general hazes. The ground-fog generator described here capitalizes on some of the strengths of both approaches by producing a mixture of very cold C02 and relatively long-lasting fluid-based fog.
