29. Final Advice

Before unleashing a new crop of eager, but unseasoned, novice technicians on the markets, there are a few pearls of wisdom to be handed down:

Let the market talk to you. If you cannot determine if it is saying up, down, or sideways using simple tools and unambiguous interpretation, then find another stock to analyze. If you force your analysis, you will, in effect, be telling the market what to do. The market is the boss, not you.

Be flexible. Follow the “spirit of the law” rather than the “letter of the law.” In other words, do not be so strict with your rules that you miss the trend. Set trendlines and patterns loosely so that they can describe what is really happening in the market. Strict construction may be ...
