THE GOALS OF RECOGNITION

 

When you recognize a person or a team, your goals are threefold:

1. To get the person or team to continue the same positive behavior or performance. If what they are doing is valuable, supports the company’s objectives, or contributes to organizational success, you want them to know it is appreciated so they will keep on doing it.

2. To encourage others to engage in the same or similar positive behavior. By rewarding this team or individual, you are sending a message to others that says, “This is the behavior or action that we value, and if you want to be seen as a valued resource in this organization, you will do something similar.” In this way, people who are recognized serve as role models in the organization. ...
