Intrinsic Rewards

An intrinsic reward is anything that is satisfying and motivating in and of itself. It appeals to the “inner self” of the person. The value comes from within the person.

Some Examples:

Image    Challenge. Ask the team to take on a tough problem, a difficult customer, or to fix a troublesome product. They will feel good about being asked.

Image    Constructive feedback. Provide timely, specific (preferably handwritten) comments on documents prepared by the team.

    Empowerment. Give the team the freedom to develop a plan, manage their budget, ...
