A TEAM BUILDER

On the surface it appears that team leaders are evaluated on the basis of the team’s goal and task accomplishment. If the team beats the competition in getting that new product to market, or improves the division’s customer satisfaction rating, or develops a new way to cut lost-time accidents, then by most acceptable measures they are deemed successful. However, effective team leadership involves both task accomplishment and process development. You cannot build a successful team without creating an effective interpersonal infrastructure. In other words, you must also be an effective team builder.
