In many situations, the team leader has little or no power over team members. Leaders often lack the authority that usually comes with a position (for example, manager, director, coach). It is called positional power because you assume authority over the members as a result of holding a position of leadership.

As a result, many team leaders, especially project team leaders, must use their influence and communications skills as well as their knowledge of the business and industry to get things done.
