Tips for Dealing with Ambiguity
When you find yourself in an ambiguous situation, it often means having to help the team quickly understand the situation, adjust, and then act quickly. Here are a few ideas on how to be effective:
1. Learn to live with “good enough” as long as it meets the customer’s expectations. Don’t be paralyzed by perfectionism.
2. Do a quick prioritization and then focus on two or three critical elements. Don’t try to solve “world peace and hunger.”
3. Empower team members to get things done quickly. Don’t micromanage.
4. Understand that some situations are messy and your team may be asked to move on to something else before you have time to bring closure. Don’t worry about little loose ends.
