Abstract

Corruption and ethical concerns abound in developing economies. In their 2012 annual ranking, Transparency International rated India 36 on a 100-point scale, indicating that corruption remains high across most sectors of business and government.2 Containing corruption requires institutional and legislative reform; it also needs a public that is willing to voice its concern about corruption and hold decision-makers accountable for corrupt behavior. This is a challenge, given India’s culture of moderate collectivism and high power distance.
