2.2. Understanding File Formats

The character code extension that follows the name of the file lets the Mac Operating System look in Launch Services to see whether an association has been made for that file extension, or file type. iPhoto supports photos that have been saved in a wide range of file formats such as JPEG, TIFF, RAW, PSD, and more.
