Create a New File

You can quickly create a new file directly within a file folder. This method is faster, and often more convenient, than running a program’s New command, as explained in the “Create a Document” section in Chapter 10.

In Windows 8, you can create seven different types of files, the most important of which are a bitmap image (a drawing), a rich text document (a WordPad file), a text document (a Notepad file), and a compressed (zipped) folder, which combines multiple files in a single file, as described later in this chapter. You can also create a new folder.
