Add an E-mail Account

Before you can send and receive e-mail messages, you must add your e-mail account to the Mail application. Your e-mail account is usually a POP (Post Office Protocol) account supplied by your Internet service provider, which should have supplied you with the POP account details. You can also set up web-based e-mail accounts with services such as Hotmail and Gmail. A web-based account is convenient because it enables you to send and receive messages from any computer.

If you have an Apple ID — that is, an account for use on the Apple iCloud service (www.icloud.com) — you can also set up Mail with your Apple account details.
