Chat with a Buddy Using Text
The easiest way to start using Messages is by exchanging text messages with one or more buddies who are online and available to chat when you are. You send an invitation to text chat to your buddy. If your buddy accepts the invitation, you can start chatting.
You use a different method to start a chat with a buddy who uses an instant messaging service, such as Google Talk, than for a contact who uses Messages on an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or a Mac, or iChat on an earlier version of OS X.
