Recover Using Local Recovery or Internet Recovery

After a power outage or severe software damage, you may not be able to restart your Mac mini at all. When this happens, you need to use OS X’s recovery features to fix the problem.

Normally, OS X can fix the problem using files from your Mac mini’s built-in recovery partition. If the recovery partition has failed, OS X can connect to Apple’s servers across the Internet and download the files it needs. This feature is called Internet Recovery.
