Understanding WordPress Backups

If you have a self-hosted blog, you are responsible for backing up your website. Doing regular backups assures that you do not lose data — or at least not much — should your database become corrupted or your host crash for whatever reason.

You need to back up the MySQL database that you created when you installed WordPress because the database stores all your blog posts and comments. You also need to back up the site, however.
