Analysis

Chances are the SME knows much more than a training class can absorb in a single training program. The SME must whittle down what is essential for the audience to retain and understand. The SME trainer can find out exactly what the learners need to know by talking with the learners' supervisors and with the students themselves.

The purpose of the analysis phase is to identify the desired performance and compare it with the current level of performance. You will want to answer these questions:

  • Who are the learners?

  • Where are the gaps in performance?

  • What will be the outcome of the training?

  • How will you know if the training is a success?
