Process Mapping

Process mapping is a visual tool used to systematically describe actions and behaviors in a sequential flow. A process flow or map presents a clear and logical visual representation of all the tasks and steps involved in the execution of a particular process. Unlike a simple task list, process maps are beneficial in that they graphically demonstrate decision points and their multiple selections, thus allowing “branching” of the tasks into separate paths, depending upon the outcome of the decision (see the sample process flow on the following page). Process mapping allows the task analyst to record multiple outcomes of decisions and is an ideal technique for documenting knowledge or cognitive tasks.
