Connect 1: Connect Review and Action Plan: Engage to Manage Attention

Connecting Prevents Tune-Out

In today's fast-paced world, people want to know what is important to them—otherwise they tune out. In order to connect, you must engage and manage people's attention right away by starting your communications with what's most relevant to the listener.

As the first of the 3 Habits, the ability to connect lays a foundation for the other Habits to build upon. You have to connect with people before you can successfully convey and convince them.

STRATEGY 1

Stay in Their Moment

Staying in their moment means tapping into other people's needs and values. How good are you at truly staying in other people's moments and tuning into their needs and values? Are you focused, listening intently, and avoiding distractions? On the other hand, are you caught up in your own world and missing signals?

STRATEGY 2

Frontload

Frontloading is the antidote to rambling. To frontload, quickly pinpoint what's relevant to your listener and communicate what matters most to them first so they don't tune out. They'll immediately grasp what's in it for them and stay connected to you.

What Could I Improve?

  • TACTIC 1: NAIL THE BIG IDEA

  • TACTIC 2: CHOOSE THEIR PMOC

  • TACTIC 3: DEFUSE DEFENSIVENESS
