Hardware You Shouldn't Consider and Why

So far I've said that hard drives are your all-around best bet as a storage medium; that optical discs are an acceptable choice in some cases (as when saving money is your main consideration); and that online storage of one kind or another is worth considering as an easy, secure alternative to rotating physical media off-site. But those three categories don't include every kind of backup hardware, and I want to head off all the "yeah-but-what-about…" inquiries.
