Understand the Lightroom Ecosystem
A decade ago, the original Lightroom started as a scrappy, upstart tool for handling image files captured in cameras’ raw formats. Today, it’s a collection of mature applications and platforms tied together by Adobe’s Creative Cloud network.
With its October 2017 releases, Adobe switched around the names a bit, so here’s the new lineup:
- Lightroom CC is the late-2017 version designed from scratch for the cloud. It copies all original image files to Creative Cloud and makes them available (either as originals or lower-resolution optimized versions) to desktop or mobile devices running Lightroom apps. For easy identification in the Dock or Taskbar, its application icon has rounded corners.
