Requirements Foundation

While this book attempts to place great importance on modeling as the proper source of all requirements, there are some ideas about requirements that we must master before moving on to modeling and that is the purpose of this chapter. These ideas include some fundamentals, of course, traceability, margins and budgets, and an overview of four strategies we could apply, three of them as an alternative to modeling. While the book does cover these other three strategies, it is important to recognize that their inclusion is driven by an interest in completeness, and the nonmodeling methods are not recommended for use on programs as the sole means of deriving the content of program specifications.
