The Promise of Convergence

The emergence of new standards and innovative technologies offer a luring proposition to provide a new service that can be quickly monetized. The problem is that they quickly tend to grow into their islands and subsequently become difficult to maintain or they wither away. Convergence helps to overcome this problem and benefits by allowing progressive standards and technologies to leverage existing revenue-generating assets. Convergence can be realized at the network, service, or device level. Our focus is primarily on the network and service level to see how the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) plays its role in convergence.
