Putting It All Together

We continue to apply the background of the building blocks of IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and the principles of its operation we have acquired so far. In this chapter we are going to examine the details of how a User Equipment (UE) can invoke services from the IMS core network. While we will focus only on a subset of scenarios, the standards such as TS-23.228 cover a more exhaustive set. We will go through the following sequence in this chapter. What happens when a UE is powered on? How does it determine access to the IMS network? How does the network authenticate and register it? How can the user make or receive a call? How can it invoke services? Finally, how can it operate in a roaming scenario?
