A common challenge with previous versions of ConfigMgr was making task sequences generally available to known systems only when booted using PXE or from media. Known systems are those that a site has a corresponding resource record for that includes a system’s Media Access Control (MAC) address, it’s SMBIOS GUID, or both. This is not a problem for unknown systems because they don’t receive deployments from ConfigMgr unless PXE or media booted.

Deploying a task sequence to any subset of known systems was essentially an all or nothing proposition. The task sequence deployment would be available when any of those known systems was PXE or media booted; however, it also showed up in Software Center (or the ConfigMgr 2007 Run Advertised ...
