Supported Platforms

To get started with on-premise cross-platform support, Microsoft first had to determine what they would support. Due to the vast nature of the many different flavors of the OS X, Linux, and UNIX operating systems, Microsoft was unable to support many of them, because this would have required countless weeks and months of setup and testing. Microsoft picked the more popular flavors that you would see in a typical heterogeneous business environment and chose to support those versions. Currently, that set of platforms is pretty well set. As newer versions are released and tested by Microsoft, they are added to the list.

Table 5.1 shows the current list of platforms that are supported.
