Defining Deployment Types

Deployment types (DTs) are a major component of a ConfigMgr application. You can almost compare a DT to a program, used with packages in ConfigMgr 2012 and earlier versions. Just as a program contains the installation command line and any platform requirements (such as Windows 7 x86), a DT contains this same basic information, and much more.

An application can have multiple deployment types. For example, say you have software with different installations for x86, x64, or different versions of Windows. Once the DT is built properly and the application deployed, the DTs are evaluated to determine which is appropriate to install.
